Have you ever thought that the bottle you have been drinking water from, could be as dirty as a toilet seat? Well, narrowing your eyes and looking back at the bottle can’t change the truth!
You definitely love to sip water from your favorite bottle and you know how important it is to stay hydrated. But at the same time, you are constantly doing harm to your health. Want to know how?
A new research has proved that refilling water bottles and sipping water from it might be as dirty as “licking the toilet seat”. While bottles are a good choice for keeping water, refilling them might not be a good idea.
Researchers have tested reusable water bottles after they had been used by athletes for a whole week. They found almost 900,000 colony forming units per square cm on an average, which is even larger in number than the toilet seat and enough to make us sick. 60% of those bacteria are quite harmful to us as we are putting the water bottles in our mouth every time we drink water.
These germs are caused due to the lack of washing. We assume that the water will keep the bottles clean but in reality, it gives birth to millions of harmful bacteria.
However, don’t be frustrated! There is a solution for it. Don’t go for the slide-top bottles, rather go for the squeeze-top or screw top bottles which are less germy. Straw-tops can also be a great option. You can also try stainless steel bottles as those are healthier than their plastic counterparts.
Avoid bottles with too many crevices where your hands can’t reach. And keep your bottles clean by washing it every day with your dishwasher.
